The Glory days vs the Modern days

Seriously enough can't be said for the glory days of 'modern' music in my eyes..70's rock (n' roll). After a solid two week binge of listening to nothing else but 70's rock and in the meantime constantly being subjected to the latest pop/modern shite on the radio everyday on the way to work, my mind is finally made up..modern music is fucked!!

Like a lot of things in modern society, it's a mere mirror of the times we live in, which is more than unfortunate. As our society becomes even more obsessed with fads, overwhelmed by consumerism, image-obsessed, increasingly mass produced, the sexualisation of youth etc. Modern music has simply followed the trend LISTEN TO THE LATEST gOOD cHARLOTTE SINGLE WITH SUCH INSIGHTFUL LYRICS AS "She's like sex on the radio" (what the fuck is that supposed to mean??), or Rhianna informing us she's "good at being bad" or how every modern pop song has to namecheck some sort of a club in it's lyrics (50 Cent has a lot to answer for!).

But after 2 weeks of nothing but Cream, Hendrix, The Stones, The Who, Creedance, Zeppelin, Rory G., AC/DC, The Clash & Pink Floyd..they really don't make em' like they used too. Sure it was all before my time but at least it's still relevant, Baba O' Reilly, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Time, Fortunate Son, Kashmir, White Riot are all still as potent as the day they were first played. I'll doubt if any Good Charlotte or Rhianna songs will still be as relevant in the year 2041.

Modern music doesn't do characters anymore, they are either carefully created by the big music companies and corporations (Miley Cyrus), or simply mass produce as sound alike look alike clones (The The bands out there). Is today's society capable of producing another Bon Scott, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Roger Waters, Rory Gallagher ETC.?. Don't get me wrong there is some seriously good rock bands out there, The Answer, Alter Bridge, Wolfmother, The Black Keys, Airbourne, Opeth, The Sword etc, etc, it's just a pity they don't get more exposure over the more 'trendy/hip' modern music.

I wish more than anything that DJ's radio stations, marketing people, big record companies those in the power would just see rock for what it is, pure adrenaline, power, groove, emotional, powerful music. So then maybe rock n' roll could rise back to the top of the ladder again with any luck!, I don't think any of those legends would fare well in a modern society where it seems being...

Anyway enough of my ranting I'm off to party like it's 1979..I'll let these video's do the talking.
